Comedy Night Returns

Hold onto your seats and get ready to laugh as the Arts Partnership welcomes accomplished comedians Auggie Smith and Henry Phillips to Alexandria’s on Friday, January 9, 2015.  Part of the Marathon Petroleum Corporations’ Performing Arts Series, A Night of Comedy is the side-splitting standup you’ve been waiting for. Tickets to the 6:30 p.m. dinner and show, are $35. Tickets for the 9:30 p.m. late show are $20. Tickets can be purchased from The Arts Partnership.

Our first comedian, Auggie Smith, achieved acclaim by winning the 1994 Sam Adams Comedy Contest, whose prizes earned him his first national exposure on the television show Evening At the Improv. Smith found his comedy voice in 1997, when he placed second in the Seattle Comedy Competition to legendary comic Mitch Hedberg. This earned him an invitation to the 1998 Montreal Comedy Festival, where he performed a remarkable 12 shows, including New Faces, Danger Zone and The Nasty Show.

Keeping a continuous road schedule of clubs across the nation, Smith introduced himself to a new legion of fans in January of 2004, with a now legendary appearance on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio Show. The morning was a mix of signature rants and brilliant improv highlighting his sharp point-of-view. His outstanding debut has become one their most replayed treasures.

Henry Phillips was seen and heard performing his twisted songs and stories on ‘Comedy Central Presents’, ABC’s ’Jimmy Kimmel Live’, as well as satellite and terrestrial radio nationwide. His critically acclaimed albums, fusing mellow folk-rock ballads with psychopathic lyrics have earned a spot in Billboard magazine’s ’Critic’s Choice’, as well as acclaim from such notable artists as Moby, who refers to Phillips’ songs as “disconcertingly funny”. His semi-biographical comedy film “Punching the Clown” received the Audience award at Slamdance film festival ’09, and is currently available on Hulu and Amazon prime.
