The Arts Partnership of Greater Hancock County has announced its education programs for the 2014-2015 school year.  Register now for these arts education opportunities!

School Day Performances –We are pleased to begin our 2014-2015 programming with Skippyjon Jones, a musical based on the book by Judy Schachner.  Skippyjon Jones is an enchanting musical by TheatreworksUSA about unleashing your powerful imagination and following your dreams. Performances will be on October 16 at St. Michael’s School.  Teachers will receive study guides in advance to prepare lessons to incorporate with the show.  Performance times are 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.mIn 2015, we are pleased to present Four Score and Seven Years Ago, Junie B. Jones and, Laura Ingalls Wilder.  All seats are $3.00. 

Professional Development Workshops – Our professional development program begins with YogaEd “Tools for Teachers,” an interactive workshop for teachers on Tuesday, September 16 and 30, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Bigelow Hill School.  This workshop, presented by Barb Matheny, will provide teachers with simple, yoga-based practices designed for the classroom and require no previous yoga knowledge, extra equipment, or space.  There is a $30 fee for both sessions to pay for the manual.  Previously trained teachers may sign up too and bring their manuals to the training for a “Refresher Class.”  Illustrators Jeanette and Christopher Canyon will present Creating Books and Art through Academics on Tuesday, November 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Glenwood Middle School.  They will share how arts and academics are closely related and how they use applied research, journaling, and technology in creating books and art. Participants will create their own artwork from clay.

In 2015, storyteller, Mike Anderson, will present Storytelling for Literacy, and we will welcome back Vicki McClurkin who will present her workshop Teaching the Curriculum through Creative Dramatics.  These workshops are FREE to educators and pre-service educators.  In addition, The University of Findlay offers one semester hour of graduate credit for attending all workshops and submitting a lesson plan for each or a grant proposal incorporating the arts integration techniques presented.

Youtheatre – Shrek the Musical -Performances of this family-friendly show are October 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and October 19 at 2 p.m. and are held in the Great Room at First Presbyterian Church, located at 2330 South Main Street in Findlay.  Tickets are on sale now. Advance ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for students.  A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $12, based upon availability.
