The Arts Partnership to Offer Performing Arts Courses

The Arts Partnership offers third year of performing arts classes “Explore the Arts!” Programming is available for youth (grades 1-5) and teens (6-12).  Students will have the opportunity to register for the following six-week courses:

How to cry on stage: A scene study class in which particular attention is paid to the authenticity of emotion that is presented while playing a certain role. For grades 6-12 classes are available Saturdays 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Class must have a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 12.   Rachel Hummel-Sass and Dani Hummel- Sass, Instructors.  Registration deadline is February 5.

From Broadway to the Tony Awards: An Exploration of the American Musical: Each week, students will explore the wide variety of Tony Award Winning and Nominated Musicals. The class will focus on several elements of Musical Theatre and how the American Musical has changed over the years. Students will also will participate in researching a Musical of their choosing, sharing with the class what they learned about the musical, and performing, if they wish, a song from the Musical. For grades 6-12 classes are available Saturdays 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.  Class must have a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 20.   Erica Bickhart and Zach Thomas, Instructors.  Registration deadline is February 5.

Singing and Acting in Musical Theatre: If your child loves to sing, dance, and act, this class is for them! Taking inspiration from famous Broadway musicals, students will work together to explore basic singing and dance technique. Through games and activities students explore the basics of storytelling and character development as they relate to musical theatre. The last class will include a Sharing Showcase for friends and families. For grades 1-5 classes are available Saturdays 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Class must have a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 20.   Celia Stockton, Instructor.  Registration deadline is February 5.

Young Playwright Group: The Young Playwrights Group’s eighth season will add a new twist this year… puppets!   Students in grades 6 through 12 will work together around a writers’ table to create one script, including both actors and puppets.  They will then build their own puppets, stage their show, and take their script on the road to perform in area schools in Late April.  This class will begin with a Basics of Puppet Scriptwriting workshop on Saturday January 27, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am with MadCap Puppets.  The remaining meetings of this class will be held Saturdays from 10:45am to 12:15pm. For grades 6-12 classes are available Saturdays 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Class must have a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 12.   Julie Lane and Lindsay Taylor, Instructors.  Registration deadline is January 22.

 Each course runs February 10 to March 10, meeting once per week. Course fees are $125 per person per class.  All classes are held at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. No make-up days will be scheduled for inclement weather and no refunds will be issued after classes have begun.
